About Holy Trinity, Goodramgate

A hidden treasure behind Our Lady’s Row, Holy Trinity Goodramgate was in existence by the end of the 11th century, though most of the current structure dates from the late medieval period.
Go inside to see its rare box pews from the 17th century, which provided privacy for wealthy worshippers and helped keep out draughts. Look out for the stunning east window, one of the finest examples of stained glass in the church, donated in 1471 by the Reverend John Walker. He has immortalised himself in the glass – spot him kneeling below the figures of the Holy Trinity. Several boards inside the church record the names of Lord Mayors from the city’s past. One is George Hudson, who was instrumental in establishing York as a major railway centre in the early 19th century.
