About St William’s College

This building, with its black and white timber-framed first floor, has formed a backdrop to scenes in Crusoe and Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. In Death Comes To Pemberley, St William’s College appears as a tavern called The King’s Arms. Scenes take place on the street here but instead of pavement there is dirt on the ground and hens and goats wandering around; Jenna Coleman emerges from the ornate archway to a horse-drawn carriage parked outside. The trial scene takes place in the building’s courtyard, but that area is not visible on the tour. Death Comes To Pemberley is a sequel to Pride and Prejudice with an added layer of mystery and crime. Filming on the mini-series took place here in the summer of 2013, with onlookers watching from behind barriers. Scenes were also shot at Holy Trinity Church, and the area outside York Castle Museum.
