About The Grand Hotel

The exterior of this impressive building was seen in series one of Channel 4’s crime drama Patience, when a crime is committed inside a fictional “Railway Hotel” – indeed, this building originally housed the headquarters of the North Eastern Railway Company, before becoming a hotel. Although the exterior was used in Patience, the interior scenes were not filmed here or anywhere else in York. There was also an episode of Patience set in York’s Railway Museum, but that was actually filmed at Belgium’s Train World Museum, in Brussels! We’ll find out more about Patience later on this tour.

Please follow the guided route to St Helen’s Square.
