About York Minster (West Front)

We now arrive at the city’s most famous building. York Minster doubled for Windsor’s St George’s Chapel, in a royal occasion on screen: the wedding of Charles and Camilla for the Netflix series The Crown. Their real-life marriage was in 2005, recreated in season six of The Crown in 2023. The Minster was closed to sightseers for a week while TV crews and stars took over and crowds of onlookers watched outside. Equipment such as green screens and lighting rigs appeared, and hundreds of extras were on set to play the wedding guests. The filming took place less than a fortnight after the actual Charles and Camilla were visiting the Minster in person! But by this time, they were King Charles III and Camilla, the Queen Consort.
