About The Mason Arms

One of several pubs on Fishergate, The Masons Arms was first recorded in 1835, operated by a stone mason George Tilney.

The premises was demolished in the 1930s and was rebuilt in the then fashionable inter-war Tudor Revival style.

Designed by James Knight, the pub was a flagship project by the local Tadcaster Tower Brewery, fitted out with numerous Gothic Revival features.

In the ground floor bar area, the interior has been decked out in oak panelling and features a well-preserved fireplace, dating from around 1830, rescued from the gatehouse of York Castle.
