About St Cuthbert’s Church
Largely rebuilt around 1430 by former Lord Mayor William de Bowes, this small medieval church was joined with St Michael le Belfrey in 1980 and recently reopened by The Belfrey as a public prayer centre. Visitors can step inside to explore nine themed prayer rooms covering subjects from lament to art to citywide prayer, with trained volunteers available. It offers a peaceful, contemplative stop on the eastern edge of York’s old core, away from the busier tourist routes.
